Please Join Your Vinings Neighbors in Voting YES for Vinings  (VEC Email sent on May 23, 2022)

For more than a decade our community has been talking about becoming a city. Two years ago this plan was set into action by a group of neighbors who serve on the boards of the Vinings Village Homeowners Association, the Vinings Historic Preservation Society, and neighbors who have always been involved in making sure that Vinings continues to be a place that we love to call “home.”

Tomorrow we have the unique opportunity to make this happen. Yes, this is more than likely our only chance for a City of Vinings. In the entire history of Georgia, the legislature has not placed a second referendum on the ballot for cityhood.

This is truly a one-time-in-history moment to preserve our community, stop overdevelopment, and save Vinings from the county’s radical agenda of increased density in the suburbs where they plan to implement the UDC (Unified Development Code) to weaken local zoning controls, as the first step towards this goal. In the suburbs, this code introduces new uses of single family home properties like adding ADU’s (Accessory Dwelling Units), for example, a basement apartment or carriage house rental unit that can, quite literally, double the number of people on that lot that is currently zoned for a single family.

Like it or not, the county is changing. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners who make our decisions for us is made up of five people, none of whom live in Vinings, who are currently working on a plan that will promote higher taxes, more county spending, higher density, and mass transit. The time to protect Vinings is now.

Just ask your neighbors in Sandy Springs, Tucker, Johns Creek, Dunwoody, Milton, Brookhaven, Peachtree Corners, and Chattahoochee Hills if they would ever go back. Ask them if they have had their lives and their property values improve due their new city, and, especially, ask those who were initially against cityhood what they think now – we have, and their the level of satisfaction speaks for itself.

Please join your neighbors tomorrow in voting YES for Vinings!

We Thank You,
The Vinings Exploratory Committee
